The plot lies on a quiet residential cul-de-sac. The site’s idyllic qualities and garden oasis are met with challenging volume restrictions for a multi-family dwelling. While the narrow buildable perimeter squeezes the program, the advantage lies in maintaining a generous garden around the house.
Cantilevering bay windows gain additional space while providing diagonal views to the garden. The result is a unique sequence of spaces that give each apartment its unique identity. Each unit spans over three floors, gaining a generous double height space in the roof and intimate garden spaces on the ground. The gable roof unifies the volumetric manipulations, negotiating a more modest outward expression.
The interlocking apartments are connected by a circulation spine around which the homes cascade and unfold. Protruding windows bring spatial diversity to the living spaces, while dormer windows in the roof further extend the interior.
